WhatsApp killing support for Windows Phone 7.1

Whatsapp has announced on its official blog that it has decided to kill support for Windows Phone 7.1 by the end of 2016. The company says they are doing so to expand their app’s features in the future and the Windows Phone 7.1 don’t offer the kind of capabilities.

Folks behind whatsapp are now suggesting users to move to newer windows phones, android or iPhone device before 2016 to continue using WhatsApp. In the same post it is mentioned that support for Nokia Series40, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.1, Android 2.2 and BlackBerry will also end in similar fashion. BlackBerry phones that use android operating system will not face this problem though.

About Windows 10 universal app support – the company has started updating their app for windows 10 mobile code but it is not universal in any way.
