Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 Update Change log

The new Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 update is out now and it has brought heaps of changes.

What has changed in Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 update?

1. Live Folders

We have covered this in the past too. It will allow the user to create folders on the home screen. The folders with live tiles will continue to work in folders, thus appropriately called the “Live Folders”.

2. Browser “improvement” – new User Agent

The new user agent for Internet Explorer is:

Mozilla/5.0 (Mobile; Windows Phone 8.1; Android 4.0; ARM; Trident/7.0; Touch; rv:11.0; IEMobile/11.0; NOKIA; 909) like iPhone OS 7_0_3 Mac OS X AppleWwebKit/537 (KHTML, Like Geko) Mobile Safari/537

This means means more sites will recognize Mobile IE as iPhone. For the user this means better Gmail experience.

3. There is “L2TP with IPsec” option in VPN.

4. There is “accessory apps” in Settings with “Learn more” link going to some preview.windowsphone.com site informing me this is invite-only site. This clearly points to support for smart watches.

5. Improved IE

6. Internet sharing via Bluetooth

Earlier it was possible to share the Internet only via Wi-Fi but some users wanted to share the Internet via Bluetooth. This feature been added to this update.

7. SMS merge and forwarding
